By accessing or using the Word Orb API ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. "You" refers to any individual or entity using the API.
Word Orb is a curated multilingual API providing dictionary data, structured lessons, quizzes, knowledge graph connections, and text generation for AI agents, educational robots, and learning platforms. The Service includes 162,000 curated words across 47 languages, 226,000 lesson blocks, and 21,900 assessments.
Access requires an API key (prefixed wo_). Each account receives one key. You are responsible for key security. Do not share, publish, or embed keys in client-side code. Compromised keys should be regenerated immediately via /api/keys/regenerate.
Exceeding tier limits returns HTTP 429. Upgrade at /pricing.
You may use API responses in your applications, products, and services. You may not:
LOTD PBC retains all intellectual property rights in the Service, including curated word data, lesson content, assessment materials, the Kelly character and likeness, curation methodology, and all proprietary algorithms. API responses may be cached locally for up to 24 hours. Attribution is appreciated but not required for standard API usage.
API request logs: 90 days. Usage analytics: 12 months. Account data: until deletion. We do not store personally identifiable information beyond your email address. See our Privacy Policy.
Rate limits are enforced per API key per day (and per minute for free tier). Sustained abuse triggers automatic throttling. Enterprise customers may negotiate custom limits.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. LOTD PBC DOES NOT WARRANT UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. Educational content is for informational purposes and does not constitute professional linguistic or pedagogical advice.
LOTD PBC's total liability shall not exceed the fees you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
Either party may terminate with 30 days written notice. We may suspend access immediately for Terms violations. Upon termination, you may request data export within 30 days. API keys are revoked upon termination.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Orange County, California.
We may update these Terms with 30 days notice via email and our changelog. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
